It was a slick, bumpy and hot course but it was literally a traffic stopping big success for ETO as 9 cars lined up for the first ever non educational venue for Electrathon Racing in the Bay Area. And once again the Electrocutioners were dominant with their elegant but simple machine. This time however they showed up with the first ever Lithium battery pack to be seen in Florida. Kudos to our Orlando Friends for pushing the technology envelope.
This race venue courtesy of Hillsborough County Government's Department of Children and Families was an extreme challenge as King High's 60 and our new member team Aparicio- Levy in their brand new crowd pleasing Aero Coup #77 experienced major wheel failures due to the tight turns on this demonstration race. The USF Alumni car was expected to be a serious contender with its smooth turning new fork but was knocked out early when their wheel motor's axle spun loose in their fork. (Some engineer wants to crow that he correctly predicted the winning speed for this 1010' course as 14 mph and the overall speed for the #8 car combined was 13.96mph )
Tampa Bay Tech's # 42 put in a superb performance after two race absences. The reigning state champs Brandon High once again demonstrated why they are the High School Class team in the Bay area to beat. And last but not last the the Grandfather of Florida Electrathon Racing, the venerable Rodney Schreck showed our kids how to do it. Thanks Rodney.
Many thanks to Fredi, Charlie, Mike, Jim, Reggae, Debbie, Chris, Irene, and the wonderful team from Plant City Ken Nay, Billy and Mikey. Lastly and especially Bob for making us shine in the eyes of the Plant City Chamber of Commerce. They want us back!
